NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Brooklyn, but later decided he was not the suspect and let him go.

Police said the shooting happened around 4:15 p.m. in front of 215 Lott Ave. in Brownsville.

Levon Gilliam Jr. was getting off a school bus when he was apparently caught in a crossfire and shot in the left leg.

Police believe the gunman was trying to shoot another man.

The boy was taken to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was treated and released.

Police released a surveillance image of a suspect Monday night.

On Wednesday a 22-year-old man was arrested, and faced several charges including felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. But police said late Wednesday afternoon that the man had been released and was not believed to be involved.
