Man Apprehended, Woman Found Slain, After Bronx Standoff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police took a man into custody, and found a woman dead with stab wounds, following a standoff in a Bronx public housing development.

Around 5:30 p.m., police were sent to a building at 1609 E. 174th St. in the Bronx River Houses development, amid reports of a suspect armed with a knife in an apartment.

When officers arrived, the suspect barricaded himself in the apartment, police said.

About two and a half hours later at 8 p.m., police took the man into custody, and found a woman of an unknown age with stab wounds, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The suspect was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with lacerations, police said.

The investigation continued late Thursday.
