Man, 73, Charged With DWI After Slamming Into House In Hicksville

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated, after he allegedly crashed through a fence and into the back of a house in Hicksville.

John J. Broschart, 73, of Hicksville, was driving a 2013 Jeep north on Newbridge Road just before noon Monday, when his vehicle was rear-ended by a 2002 Jeep being driven by a 28-year-old man, Nassau County police said.

Broschart's Jeep crossed into the southbound lanes, crashed through the fence, and ended up inside the back of a house on Blueberry Lane, police said.

One resident was assisted out of a second-story window by a neighbor, police said. No one was injured.

Broschart was arrested, and then taken to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, and will be arraigned Tuesday at Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead.

The other driver who was involved refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
