Rep. Maloney: NYC 'Undisputed Fashion Capital Of The World'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City is on top again when it comes to the fashion industry and Fashion Week is just a part of it.

Calling the Big Apple "the undisputed fashion capital of the world," Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney released a report saying New York's fashion industry employs 183,000 people.

"We are creating new types of jobs, new energy and it's an exciting industry," Maloney said.

Though many manufacturing jobs have moved out, New York City has become the center for designers, research and development, marketing and fashion technology, WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported.

"We are really the new generation of how it's going to be able to build now and also really for the future," said designer Karolina Zmarlak.

The city's two Fashion Weeks alone generate $900 million.
