Makeover Coming For New Jersey License Plates

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- New Jersey license plates are undergoing a makeover.

Instead of raised letters and numbers on the license plates, the new plates will have digitally printed flat lettering.

The yellow and black colors will remain the same.

The State of New Jersey said the new plates are cheaper to manufacture, and will last longer with wear and tear. The old plates require ink rollers, embossing machines and gas ovens, while the new ones will use computerized printing, according to an NJ.com report.

The new plates will be issued once the current supply runs out.
