MADD Urges New Yorkers Not To Drink & Drive This New Year's Eve

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Staff at some toll booths across New York are handing out red ribbons to display on vehicles as a reminder to drivers not to drink and drive this New Year's Eve.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving spokeswoman from Long Island Deanna Cohen said it's important to think about your family, your job and everything else you could lose if you drink and drive and kill someone or yourself.

"Think about how your children will remember you. A memory means you are not here anymore, you are either dead or you're in prison, one or the other will happen if you drink and drive," she told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

Cohen said many establishments are offering free non-alcoholic beverages to designated drivers on New Year's Eve. She said it's important to plan ahead on how you are going to get home safely.

"And remember that the designated driver has nothing to drink. If he can't do that, call a cab, get a limo or stay where you are," Cohen said.
