Luxury Technology Show Offers Glimpse Of High-Priced Electronics

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Step into the lifestyle of the rich and tech savvy.

CBS2's Meg Baker got a glimpse of new electronics and other gadgets that went on display Thursday at The Luxury Technology Show.

The event features products "all the way up to a quarter-million dollars, all the way down to anything that's a few hundred dollars," said Alex Reiff, producer of the show. "It doesn't have to be the most expensive product in the world, but is has to be different."

A look into the future of audio technology includes Clio invisible speakers, which make sound from a piece of glass, easily fitting into any room.

"We're targeting sophisticated trendsetters, and we're offering them an alternative to traditional black boxes," said Gene D'Ovidio of Clio by Clearview.

If you are a jet-setter, there are new sensors to keep track of your luggage with real-time, pinpoint technology.

"So it doesn't go to China while you're going to South America," said Alessandro Sposito of LugTrack.

Other scenarios: hotel mode, which makes sure your bags never leave your room, and golf mode because you wouldn't want your bag to walk away from the clubhouse.

Baker sat in a $250,000 Lamborghini while holding matching $6,000 phone.

Why is the phone so pricy? It's hand-crafted with fine leather and has more internal memory than your average smartphone, as well as a 20-megapixel camera.

"It's for people of wealth, people of luxury, people who want to feel important, people who want to quote-unquote show off," said Lamborghini's Leo Prozument.

One of the more practical, budget-friendly pieces is Cuff smart jewelry, which can be used as a fitness tracker, and in case of emergency, can be used to locate family members. Also, if you don't have a cellphone in hand, "it'll buzz in a certain way and tell you your husband's calling you," product developer Elena Tabb said.

The Luxury Technology Show is being held at the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street in Chelsea. Champagne is served on your way in, but in order to attend, you must be an invited VIP guest.
