1 Hurt When 2 Manholes Explode In Lower Manhattan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Two manholes exploded Thursday evening in Lower Manhattan, sending one person to a hospital.
The first cover blew around 4:30 p.m. on Nassau Street between Liberty Street and Maiden Lane. A short time later, a second cover blew on the same block.
There was a minor manhole explosion in front of 53 Nassau Street (at Maiden Lane) - vehicular traffic shut down in the vicinity in regards. No serious injuries. Will update.

Con Edison said the manholes had voltage issues, which caused the explosions.
One cover hit the bottom of a car. One person in the car was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Con Edison said weather appeared to be a factor.
Members of the NYPD, FDNY and Con Ed all responded.
Traffic in the area was shut down for some time.
