Police: Suspects Slashed, Beat Man In Lower East Side Deli

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were searching for two suspects who robbed and slashed a man in a Lower East Side deli late last month.

Around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, a 38-year-old man walked into the One Stop Deli at 201 Madison St., and one of the suspects began quarreling with him, police said.

The suspect took out a box cutter and slashed the man in the neck and face, police said.

As the victim struggled with the suspect, a second man began punching the victim several times in the head, police said.

Both suspects ran off after the first suspect took the victim's knapsack, police said.

The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center, where he was treated for his injuries, police said.

Police have released a surveillance video of the suspects.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
