NYPD: Loud Boom Heard In Queens, L.I. Due To Military Flyover
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- What sounded like an explosion in Queens and on Long Island Wednesday rattled homes and nerves.
Residents contacted authorities and reported hearing a loud boom and that the ground shook.
The Oceanside Fire Department tweeted, and then deleted, "The explosion you heard is being attributed to Air Force Ones military escort coming into JFK."
The New York Police Department also sent a tweet explaining the noise, saying it was due to a military flyover.
The Air Force's Air Combat Command said the planes were F-15s that were providing cover to the United Nations meeting taking place in New York City.
Reports of F-22 activity over NYC incorrect. @1stAF & @NoradNorthcom F-15s providing cover to UN meeting. This is at request of @FAANews.

Some people took to Twitter and questioned the explanation.
Are we expected to believe this?

People have been on alert ever since a bomb went off in a trash can in Seaside Park, New Jersey in Saturday and another one hours later in Chelsea left 31 people hurt.
Federal terrorism charges were filed against bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami on Tuesday night in connection with bombings in New York and New Jersey. He also faces state charges in New Jersey of attempting to murder police officers.
