Brookville Mayor Pardons Turkey At Long Island's Historic Milleridge Inn

JERICHO, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- One turkey on Long Island has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Teddy was pardoned at Long Island's historic Milleridge Inn.

Gary Rodgers, with Nassau SPCA, said the pardon sent a wonderful message.

"We need to make people aware that we have to take care of animals that can't speak for themselves," he told WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs.

Brookville Mayor Daniel Serota made it official.

"This is an act of mercy, and we won't have to stuff this poor bird and we can spare its life," he said.

Teddy will live out his natural life at the inn.
