Long Island Farmers Smiling Over Bumper Crop Of Pumpkins This Fall

SETAUKET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Mother Nature is getting the credit for a great Halloween pumpkin season on Long Island this year.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, Long Island farmers are raving about their pumpkin crop.

"This year has been a great year, 4,000 pumpkins already," said Christian Pantaleon, with Pantaleon Farm and Stand in Setauket.

Pantaleon said the lack of rain has actually been good for the pumpkin crop as they're seeing a lot less pumpkin rot this year -- and they're big too.

"The biggest one is about 100 pounds. The smallest ones are basically like half a pound," he said.

All sizes, shapes, and colors, said Pantaleon, are great.
