Long Island Park Reopens More Than A Year And A Half After Sandy
LINDENHURST, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- On Wednesday night the first baseball game was played at a Long Island park that just reopened after being damaged in Superstorm Sandy.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, it took more than a year and a half but the Shore Road Park in Lindenhurst, Long Island has finally reopened.
"The project that we have just completed is the reconstruction of our electrical system, which was totally impacted by Hurricane Sandy. At that park we had a 7-foot title surge," said Shawn Cullinane, the clerk treasurer for the village.
The park has a lighted baseball field as well as three soccer fields.
FEMA picked up the $350,000 cost to repair the damage.
Cullinane said they also placed a rock in the park.
"The purpose of dedicating that rock was to the volunteers who had come down to that park and set up what was known as Camp Bulldog and that became a central location for volunteers for supplies," he said.
