Long Island Man Accused Of Impersonating Retired NFL Player

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A Long Island man faces impersonation charges after being accused of posing as a retired professional football star.

Michael P. Rumph, of Baldwin, shares nearly the same name as retired football defenseman Michael J. Rimph.

Prosecutors allege the defendant forged documents when renting a house in Baldwin. He reportedly told relators he was the former Rams and Redskins player and then stopped paying rent.

Authorities say he was able to access and impersonate paystubs.

The real NFL player now lives in Florida and reported the crime to police.

The defendant entered a not guilty plea.
