Long Island Man Accused Of Biting Police Officer On Arm

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man has been arrested for allegedly biting a police officer.

The incident occurred at Huntington Town Hall around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Daniel Karpen, 66, refused a public safety officer's request to search his backpack as he was entering a public meeting, police said.

Karpen was asked to step outside, but instead he ran into a meeting room, where officers tried to handcuff him, police said. He then bit a female officer on the arm while officers tried to detain him, police said.

The officer was taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment.

Karpen has been charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, resisting arrest and assault.

He is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
