Long Island High School Teacher Accused Of Abusing Student

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island high school science teacher was in court Tuesday on charges that he sexually abused a female student at his school.

Stephen Malusa, 47, is a teacher at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, Suffolk County police said.

County police Special Victims Section detectives arrested Malusa after an investigation allegedly revealed he had abused the student in May of last year.

Police did not specify the age of the student, or whether Malusa personally had been one of her teachers.

Malusa, of Selden, was charged with third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip.
