Long Island High School Football Player Dies After Injury During Game

ELWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island were investigating the death of a high school football player who suffered an injury during a game Wednesday evening.

CBS 2 has learned the student from Shoreham-Wading River High School suffered an unspecified injury during the game at John Glenn High School in Elwood around 6 p.m.

He was taken to North Shore LIJ-Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Suffolk County police told CBS 2.

A Newsday report said the student was a high school junior and a guard and linebacker on the football team. He was injured during the third quarter, according to the newspaper.

The circumstances of how he was injured were not clear.
