Long Island Dad With 2 Kids In Car Charged With DWI

SELDEN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island father has been charged with DWI under Leandra's Law after being pulled over by police in Suffolk County early Sunday morning.

According to police, 25-year-old James O'Connor was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Passat westbound on Middle Country Road in Selden when he was pulled over by police at around 3:30 a.m.

Police said O'Connor was pulled over for failing to maintain his lane. O'Connor's 5-year-old and 8-month-old daughters were in the vehicle with him.

Following an interview, police said it was determined that O'Connor was intoxicated and he was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child 15 years old or younger and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

O'Connor was also issued three summonses for vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.

O'Connor was expected to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
