Police: LI Woman Arrested Outside Pawn Shop After Stealing Jewelry From Homes

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman is facing charges in connection with a string of burglaries in Nassau County.

Sonia Villegas, 34, of Amityville, was arrested Wednesday afternoon as she walked out of a pawn shop on Merrick Road in Massapequa after police said she stole jewelry from two homes earlier that day.

Villegas had also broken into another home through a bathroom window, but ran off emptyhanded when she was confronted by the homeowner, police said.

Villegas is also accused of stealing jewelry from a home in Westbury on April 7 and another home in Massapequa Park on May 27.

Villegas will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on five counts of second-degree burglary.
