Long Island Man Charged With Boating While Intoxicated

FIRE ISLAND, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Suffolk County police have arrested a Long Island man on charges of boating while intoxicated.

Authorities say an officer with the Marine Bureau was on patrol in the Great South Bay around 9:40 p.m. Saturday when he saw a boat heading toward the police boat without any navigation lights.

The police boat's crew reversed the craft to avoid a collision, then stopped the other boat.

Suffolk Police said in a statement the 25-foot boat was being operated by William Lindemann, 54, of Holbrook, and there were two adult passengers on board.

Lindemann was arrested.

Lindemann was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday morning at First District Court in Central Islip.
