LONG BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Long Beach sanitation workers went through tons of garbage this recently to help a woman find cash she accidentally threw out.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, Bayban Nandalall of Long Beach recently realized she accidentally threw out $5,000 – the money she was using to pay her mortgage.

Sanitation workers sprang into action to help her out.

In all, the workers went through 13 tons of trash until the money was found about 40 years later.
