Local Leaders Fear State Budget Cuts In Conn Will Take A Toll On Cities, Towns

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Connecticut cities and towns fear that budget cuts from the state will take a toll.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton is watching the situation at the capital carefully. He said cuts by the state could have a dramatic impact locally.

Boughton said that there has been pressure on cities and towns to take over more responsibilities for years, but there is a limit.

"We understand what a difficult challenge that the state of Connecticut is facing, but please don't balance it on our backs. Please don't require us to do more and more programs and services," he told WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief.

Many town leaders fondly remember the 1990s. The glory days when the state was booming and towns and cities got a boost in state aid tied directly to the money hauled in during the casino bonanza.
