Little Italy Bakery Accused Of Selling Fake Cronuts

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Little Italy bakery is accused of selling counterfeit Cronuts.

French chef Dominique Ansel, the creator of the world-famous doughnut-croissant hybrid, is getting set to sue, 1010 WINS' John Montone reported.

Copycats started to mimic Ansel's creation under different names shortly after he began selling the treats for $5 a piece at the Dominique Ansel Bakery in SoHo last May.

But City Éclair on Hester Street is the first establishment to sell a version of the dessert using the name Cronut, which was trademarked by Ansel in January, according to the New York Post.

Fans of the original Cronut were upset over the alleged trademark infringement.

"People wait in long lines for long hours to get those Cronuts," said Charlie Barrone who lives near Ansel's bakery.

"That's ridiculous, that's not fair," another man said.
