Little Girl Seen Wandering Alone On Long Island Found Safe, Police Say
ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A little girl seen wandering alone on Long Island has been found safe, police say.
A woman first spotted the 8-year-old around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at a gas station near Nassau Road and East Greenwich Avenue in Roosevelt. She tried to approach her, but the girl ran off.
Police later received reports the child was seen walking across the bridge on the Southern State Parkway, and then entered a wooded area at Nassau Road.
"My heart goes out to that child and her parents, because we need to know why she was out there," resident Pamela Grant told CBS2.
"I mean, you don't know, she could get hit by a car, she could get abducted, you don't know what could happen," resident Mavelette Hayden said.
Police said the girl ended up at a home in Queens and was unharmed. Authorities did not expect any charges to be filed.
