Third Rail Damage In East River Tunnel Snarls LIRR Service

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Long Island Railroad says its service is on or close to schedule in and out of Penn Station following earlier delays and cancellations due to third rail damage in one of Amtrak's East River tunnels.

Select trains were diverted Wednesday morning to Atlantic Terminal, Hunterspoint Avenue or terminating at Jamaica Station. Service between Atlantic and Jamaica Avenues has since been restored.

NYC Transit was cross-honoring on the E train at Jamaica, Kew Gardens and Forest Hills, at Atlantic and 34th Street for 2/3 trains and on the 7 train at Woodside.
