LIRR Service Restored After Earlier Signal Problems
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Service has been restored in both directions between Jamaica and Penn Station and on the Port Washington Branch between Penn Station and Woodside following earlier signal troubles, the Long Island Rail Road said.
Trains operating between Jamaica and Penn Station will make added local stops, the LIRR said.
Service was suspended shortly before 10 a.m. Monday because of a signal problem east of the East River tunnels.
A contractor working on a new signal hut damaged four cables, the LIRR said.
A full review of the incident is under way, the LIRR said.
NYC Transit had been cross-honoring LIRR fares at Jamaica, Woodside, Atlantic Terminal and Penn Station.
