LIRR Report: Public Largely Responsible For Increase In Train Delays

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new Long Island Rail Road report appears to point the finger at the public for an increase in train delays -- and that isn't sitting well with some riders.

According to the report, large crowds, passenger mishaps and other unexpected occurrences are among the reasons for the increase in delays, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.

"To blame the public -- I think there's no blame in it, honestly," LIRR customer Gabriel Guran said. "This is how it is.

"They don't want to own up to responsibility," Guran added. "Yeah, push it off on somebody else. And who better to blame than the people who takes the train?"

An LIRR spokesman told Xirinachs the report is not blaming the public, but only giving the facts.
