Fatal Accident Causes Service Disruptions On 3 LIRR Lines

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Service was disrupted on three Long Island Rail Road lines Tuesday morning after authorities said a man was fatally struck by a train near the Syosset station.

LIRR spokesman Sal Arena said the man apparently darted onto the tracks at around 6 a.m. east of the Syosset Woodbury Road crossing.

The train was carrying about 300 passengers at the time.

Service was suspended for about two hours on the Port Jefferson branch between Huntington and Hicksville as authorities investigated the incident.

The shutdown also resulted in delays on the Ronkonkoma and the Oyster Bay branches.
