LIRR Sees Delays, Cancellations After Train Strikes Vehicle On Tracks in Mattituck
MATTITUCK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Long Island Rail Road was experiencing delays on Long Island's East End after a train struck vehicle in the tracks.
According to the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the 12:42 westbound train from Greenport to Ronkonkoma struck an unauthorized vehicle which was stopped on the tracks on Elijah's Lane in Mattituck.

The crash occurred at around 1:08 p.m. As of 1:45 p.m., delays along the line remained as police investigated the incident.
According to the MTA, no one aboard the train was injured during the incident.
The status of the other vehicle was not immediately clear.
The investigation is ongoing.
Officials say the Long Island Rail Road is putting security cameras at some grade crossings in an effort to prevent motorists from trying to beat approaching trains.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials indicated that the cameras would record license plates of cars illegally going through active crossings.
Nowakowski says LIRR can't legally fine those who illegally travel through crossings. But MTA officials say LIRR should still send warning letters to motorists that are caught.
