Fire That Damaged Substation Power Feed In Brooklyn Snarls LIRR Service

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fire that damaged a power feed to a Long Island Rail Road substation has snarled rail service to and from Brooklyn on Friday.

The LIRR says Hempstead westbound service will end at Jamaica while eastbound service will start at Jamaica. Customers will be able to go to and from the Atlantic Terminal by using the Far Rockaway branch.

NYC Transit is cross-honoring LIRR tickets at 34th Street and Atlantic Terminal for the 2 and 3 subway lines as well as at Sutphin/Archer on the E and J lines.

It's unclear when Brooklyn service will be restored. The LIRR says it is working with Con Ed to fix the problem. For more information, click here.
