Broken Rail, Truck Striking Bridge Cause Major Mess On LIRR
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Long Island Rail Road riders had a rough start to their day.
A broken rail east of Mineola and a truck striking a LIRR bridge near Merillon Avenue caused massive service disruptions during the morning rush hour Wednesday.
Repairs were completed around 11:30 a.m. and service is now operating on or close to schedule, the LIRR said. At one point, eastbound service on the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Oyter Bay branches was suspended in both directions.
Many LIRR riders took to Twitter to voice their frustration.

At what point does being stuck on a non-moving train turn into kidnapping? #mta #LIRR

You've outdone yourself today @LIRR. Well done. And of course kudos to the dopeface in the truck who hit the bridge. #delays #winning #LIRR

The fact that I've been on this train for 2 hrs now and we're not even remotely close to Manhattan is unacceptable. #lirr

Hour 3 of being trapped on the #LIRR. Passengers are becoming unruly. Logic and reason will soon be replaced by cannabilism and jungle law.

The latest troubles prompted some to bring back the "#WeDeserveBetter" hashtag which gained traction earlier this year among riders who were unhappy with the LIRR's performance.
@LIRR stuck on a non moving train for 40 mins with a conductor who consistently updates us that he has no updates. #lirr #wedeservebetter

The railroad is posting service updates to its website and Twitter page.
