Playground Destroyed By Fire In Linden, New Jersey

LINDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A playground broke out in flames and was destroyed Sunday afternoon in Linden, New Jersey.

Just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Linden police officers and firefighters were called to Wales Park, on West Curtis Street near Ainsworth Street. They found a large fire burning with heavy smoke billowing into the air at the playground, police said.

The fire department put out the fire within minutes, but the entire playground area was destroyed, police said.

The damage was estimated at $80,000. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation late Sunday, but it was considered suspicious, police said.
