Linden, N.J. Police Hunt Dealer Who Sold Pot To 14-Year-Old Boy

LINDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Police are looking for the drug dealer who sold pot to a 14-year-old boy.

The boy's parents found two small bags of marijuana in his bookbag Tuesday night and called police, Capt. James Sarnicki told WCBS 880's Levon Putney.

"I am sure the parents would like to know also where the 14 year old got the marijuana from," Sarnicki said. "I think the parents want to send a message to their son."

The boy admitted to police he was smoking pot, but said it was to treat depression, Sarnicki said.

"It's an original explanation, one that we're not used to hearing from a 14-year-old boy," Sarnicki said. "I am sure the cops were amused with the explanation."

Authorities are looking into the matter and considering possible charges, Putney reported.
