LI Groups Deliver Warm Clothes To Day Laborers

FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Some business and community leaders on Long Island are reaching out to day laborers as the frigid temperatures linger across the region.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported from Farmingville, some make their livelihoods by standing out in the cold waiting for someone to hire them.

They are the people we so often see are street corners and outside convenience stores. Many live in poverty or are homeless and work outside in these frigid conditions, Xirinachs reported.

Local groups distributed warm clothes like heavy coats, thermal shirts and hats, and hot beverages to them at locations in Farmingville, Huntington Station and Westhampton.

The day laborers, who often live in the shadows of society, are sometimes reluctant to seek help. On yet another freezing cold day, the help is coming to them.
