Burglar Caught On Surveillance Camera Ransacking Levittown Home

LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A daring burglar broke into a home in Levittown, Long Island this past weekend – but his crime was caught on surveillance camera.

The suspect broke into the house on Hilltop Lane in Levittown around 6 p.m. this past Saturday, authorities said.

The homeowner, Robert Carra, said the suspect broke in through a side door.

The thief took off with personal papers and Carra's daughter's jewelry, the homeowner said.

"It's items that she selected herself, or they were gifts for communion from family and other close friends," Carra said, "and so won't be able to replace those items at all."

Carra's family was not home at the time. They believe the burglar might have been tipped off by gifts that were delivered to the front step.

The gifts were also taken, Carra said.
