Leaking Roof At Barclays Center Halts Nets Game For Nearly Half An Hour

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The idea of a rain delay probably conjures up thoughts of baseball games and warm summertime storms, not basketball games – and certainly not indoor stadiums.

But as it happened, there was indeed a rain delay as the Nets took on the Miami Heat at the Barclays Center Tuesday night. A leaky roof halted the game for 29 minutes during the first quarter.

The Nets were down 21-24 against the Heat, with 1 minute and 46 seconds to go in the first quarter, when the game was halted.

CBS Sports reported that the roof leaking problem was actually termed a "rain delay" by officials.

The leak was blamed on the installation on a new green roof at the Barclays Center. Rain was falling throughout much of the evening.

Team officials including Nets General Manager Billy King came onto the court to assess the problem.

Photos shared on Instagram and published during the game showed large plastic garbage drums and towels on the court, while maintenance workers came in with mops.

The Heat went on to win the game 95-91, with Dwayne Wade scoring 28 points for Miami. Mason Plumlee had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Heat, and Joe Johnson scored 16 points.

The Heat led by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter, but the Nets closed to 93-91 on Bojan Bogdanovic's 3-pointer with 35 seconds left.
