Officials: Elevated Lead Levels Found At Three Village Central School District On Long Island

EAST SETAUKET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Elevated levels of lead have been discovered in another school district on Long Island.

In a letter to parents and the community, the Three Village Central School District said testing found water tainted with lead at several schools.

Arrowhead Elementary School in East Setauket, Nassakeag Elementary in Setauket, Minnesauke in East Setauket, Mount Elementary in Stony Brook and Setauket Elementary in East Setauket all had increased lead levels, according to the district.

Officials said they immediately disconnected all faucets found to have the unacceptable lead levels.

All water fountains have also been disconnected and officials said they are installing filtered bottled water filling stations at each of the elementary schools, which are already in place at Ward Melville High School and both junior high schools.

Northport, East Northport, Syosset, Carle Place and Valley Stream are some of the other school districts that have reported levels of lead that exceeded guidelines, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
