Lawyer: NYC EMT Had Fireworks At Brooklyn Home, Not Explosives
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The lawyer for a New York City emergency medical technician accused of possessing two explosive devices inside his Brooklyn home said his client only had firecrackers.
EMT Victor Cadicamo's attorney told a Brooklyn judge on Friday the explosive devices weren't pipe bombs but rather were sparklers left over from his infant son's birthday, according to published reports.
Attorney Oliver Storch said at the 29-year-old's arraignment that weapons recovered at his Brooklyn home were actually "inoperable props.''
He said Cadicamo has an exemplarly record as an EMT.
Police were called to Cadicamo's home on Brighton 10th Terrace on Thursday for an alleged domestic dispute.
Officials said following his arrest, Cadicamo told detectives at a stationhouse he had explosives in his home.
Bomb squad investigators recovered two explosive devices and guns from the home, police said.
Cadicamo is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and harassment.
