Lawmakers Want To See More Jersey Pride In Run-Up To Super Bowl XLVIII
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - New Jersey lawmakers want the state to show a little more pride with the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium fast approaching.
As WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported, it seems Sen. Robert Menendez is a little tired of hearing about New York hosting the Super Bowl.
"For all of those who are geographically challenged, welcome to New Jersey," said the senator.
He added, "we have no inferiority complex."
The local officials gathered in the Meadowlands to try to draw attention to the Garden State.
"Peyton Manning won't be quarterbacking in Central Park and Richard Sherman won't be screaming in someone's face in the Financial District. At least, we hope not," Menendez said.
"If people need a GPS to find out where we are, we will gladly try to provide it for them," Rep. Bill Pascrell said.
He added the state boasts plenty to offer everyone.
"We do have great restaurants" and shopping, Pascrell said. "And they're all in this area."
"Let's shop local. Some of the best buys and great quality are available locally," Menendez said.
Super Bowl XLVIII will kick off from MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2.
