Free Fishing Allowed At Lake Ontario, Adjacent Rivers Through Labor Day

OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) — New York is allowing free fishing this summer on Lake Ontario and adjacent rivers recently hit by flooding.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week announced the state is waiving fishing licenses and license fees through Labor Day for fishing on Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and the lower Niagara River. The governor noted that recent flooding has affected tourism in communities along the shoreline.

There also will be 50 percent off state campground and vehicle entrance fees along the lake and the St. Lawrence River.
