LaGuardia Airport Hit By Traffic 'Nightmare' During Evening Commute

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Drivers getting into and out of LaGuardia Airport were subjected to a traffic mess Friday evening.

Chopper 2 flew over the Grand Central Parkway in the late afternoon and early evening, showing bumper-to-bumper traffic during the evening commute.

The slowdowns were mainly at the entrance to the airport.

Some drivers said they were stuck in traffic for more than an hour and complained that lanes were closed due to construction. They said traffic agents were nowhere to be found.

"They should have a couple of traffic cops or traffic somebody," said John Papa of Howard Beach, Queens. "There's nobody directing traffic any up there – no one, absolutely no one."

"It's a nightmare," said tourist Laura Casale. "Three lanes that come into the airport are bumper-to-bumper."

CBS2 reached out to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey but have not heard back.
