Wyandanch HS Football Players Suspended Over 'Roughhousing'

WYANDANCH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - School officials say an investigation into a bullying incident involving five Wyandanch Memorial High School varsity football players turned out to be unfounded.

The five players were suspended for two days for pulling pranks on each other after watching the girls' volleyball team play, WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported.

"Roughhousing, just you know, carousing in the hallway, trying to pants each other and stuff," school district spokesman Nathan Jackson said.

The students were not suspended from playing football.

Jackson says the comparisons have been made to the high school hazing incident in Sayreville, New Jersey.

"There was no sexual contact, there was no hazing. It was just guys being stupid," he said.

A mother who heard about the incident voiced her concern at a recent school board meeting.

Video surveillance of the incident was turned over to the police, but Jackson says no charges were filed.

In a statement, Wyandanch board said "there is a zero-tolerance policy in the Wyandanch school district for any kind of unnecessary physical contact."
