Jury Finds Dr. Stan Li Guilty In Prescription Drug Deaths Case

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Queens doctor accused of selling prescription drugs out of his pain-management clinic has been found guilty in the deaths of two of his patients.

As WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported Friday, the jury came back with a resounding verdict of guilty against Dr. Stan Li.

Li was convicted of two counts of manslaughter in the deaths of Joseph Hague and Nicholas Rappold. He was also found guilty of reckless endangerment in connection with two more patient overdose deaths and four nearly-fatal overdoses.

Bridget Brennan, the city's Special Narcotics Prosecutor, said Li's conviction should send a message to the few unscrupulous doctors who do so much harm to so many by becoming drug dealers, Cornell reported.

"They will absolutely be held criminally responsible for a crime like manslaughter if they're -- not just irresponsible but reckless -- prescribing of highly addictive and dangerously lethal opioid drugs results in death," Brennan said.
