Judge Denies Request To Lower Bail For Rapper Bobby Shmurda
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A second judge has refused to reduce the $2 million bail that's keeping rapper Bobby Shmurda locked up on gang conspiracy and gun charges.
Shmurda, 20, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, is accused of shooting at his brother through the window of a Brooklyn barbershop in June, narrowly missing his target and other patrons, including two toddlers, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported. The argument between the brothers was over Shmurda's leadership of the gun-happy GS9 gang, said Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Nigel Farinha.
Shmurda's attorney argued the bail is unreasonable and that the judge who set it abused his discretion. The rapper's record label, Epic, has refused to help with his bail.
Farinha argued that Shmurda could be a danger if released.
Shmurda, who grew up in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, received widespread attention last year for his song "Hot N***a" and its accompanying video that featured him performing the "Shmoney dance" that he choreographed.
In July, Epic signed him to a seven-figure, multi-album recording deal.
