JPP Offers Words Of Encouragement Via FaceTime To Boy Who Lost Parts Of Fingers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With celebrity comes responsibility.
It appears that Jason Pierre-Paul understands that.
The Giants' defensive end is back on the field after losing his right index finger and parts of two other fingers following a Fourth of July fireworks accident.
That's remarkable in itself, but what might be more impressive is what JPP has been doing off the field.
The two-time Pro Bowler reached out to 11-year-old Seamus Bohannon on Tuesday night, NJ.com's Jordan Raanan reports.
Bohannon's fingers got stuck in a bike chain on Nov. 3, and parts of two of his fingers were amputated.
NJ.com reports that Pierre-Paul contacted Bohannon via FaceTime and offered him words of encouragement.
"This guy, he didn't have to do that," Seamus' mother, Christine Bohannon, told Raanan. "We were just taken aback by it. My son is in his glory right now. Just the fact that someone was reaching out to him."
Seamus' sister, Janie, reached out to Pierre-Paul via Twitter on Nov. 4.
@UDWJPP @Giants please send my brother some encouraging words it would mean a lot!! pic.twitter.com/LyYLAMbeIc

Pierre-Paul came through in a big way and provided Seamus with a moment that he'll never forget.
"Stay strong," Christine told Raanan when asked what the football star told her son. "Stay tough and you have to work hard at it."

"It was a great thing for my son," she added, according to Raanan. "The biggest thing was the smile. He couldn't stop smiling."
