Report: Former Mets Great Jose Reyes Arrested For Assaulting Wife In Hotel Room

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- According to KHNL in Honolulu, Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was reportedly arrested for assaulting his wife in a hotel room in Hawaii.

The television station reports that the alleged incident took place on Halloween at the Four Seasons Resort Maui.

KHNL reports that Reyes' wife, Katherine, told police officers that the former Mets great grabbed her by the throat and proceeded to throw her into a glass door. According to the station, Katherine said she sustained thigh, neck and wrist injuries.

The 32-year-old was arrested for abuse, according to KHNL, and was subsequently released on bail. It's unclear whether police officers have charged him with anything.

Reyes starred for the Mets from 2003-11 and established himself as one of the most exciting players in the sport and one of the biggest fan favorites in club history.

He signed a six-year, $106 million contract with the Marlins in 2011 but was traded to the Blue Jays in 2012.

In July he was traded to the Rockies in a blockbuster deal that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto.

During his tenure in Queens, Reyes was a four-time All-Star. He won the Silver Slugger Award in 2006, was the National League stolen-base leader from 2005-07 and took home the batting title in 2011.

This past season he hit .274 with seven homers and 53 RBIs in 116 games.
