Suspect At Large After Leading Long Island Cops On Chase, Crashing Rental Car

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island are searching for a man who they say led cops on a car chase then crashed before fleeing into a wooded area.

The driver was traveling on Ocean Parkway going about 80 mph late Tuesday afternoon and refused to pull over, police said. After leading cops on a pursuit, the driver crashed into a curb at the Field 4 parking lot area of Jones Beach, got out of the car and ran, authorities said.

Officers with police dogs were unable to find the suspect in a wooded area, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

The man remains at large.

The suspect is believed to be from Brooklyn and has a suspended learner's permit, Hall reported.

Inside the rented Honda, officers found about 50 gift and credit cards.
