Joan Rivers' Daughter Melissa: 'Mother Has Been Moved Out Of Intensive Care'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Joan Rivers' daughter says the comedian has now been moved out of intensive care.

Melissa Rivers said in a statement on Wednesday that "my mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable. Thank you for your continued support."

The 81-year-old comedian went into cardiac and respiratory arrest last Thursday while undergoing a vocal cord procedure at a private Upper East Side clinic. She was then rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was placed in a medically induced coma.

Rivers' family said on Tuesday morning that she remained on life support. The family didn't specify on Wednesday whether Rivers' move out of ICU meant she had been removed from life support.

Melissa Rivers has also been outspoken about her gratitude to friends, family and fans in their continued support.

"On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received, she said in a statement released by Rivers' longtime publicist on Tuesday.

"I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Rivers has always been on the go — still performing stand-up comedy and recently releasing a new book. She also appears in reality TV shows and runs a jewelry line.

Rivers had spoken the day before the procedure at an employee event at Time Inc. in New York. Spectators there said she had appeared to be well.

She got her first taste of real fame in 1965 as a guest on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."

The taping of Rivers' popular "Fashion Police" TV show has reportedly been put on hold. It was supposed to happen this week during Fashion Week.
