Plane Lands Safely At JFK Airport After Bird Strike Shortly Following Takeoff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A plane was forced to make an emergency landing after striking birds shortly after taking off Saturday morning.

Port Authority sources tell CBS2 Delta Flight 2836 suffered a bird strike at approximately 500 feet altitude just before 8:30 am, shutting down one of its engines.

It was forced to return to John F. Kennedy International Airport, where the Port Authority PBA says it was met and inspected by the Aircraft Rescue Firefighter Unit.

No injuries were reported.
