Jets Promote Safety Ronald Martin, Waive Defensive Lineman T.J. Barnes

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Jets have promoted safety Ronald Martin from the practice squad, hours before they take on Rex Ryan's Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.

To make room on the roster Thursday, the Jets waived defensive lineman T.J. Barnes.

The move to activate Martin comes as the Jets are struggling with injuries in the secondary. Martin, who played in three games earlier this season, gives New York just three healthy safeties, including Marcus Gilchrist and Rontez Miles.

Starter Calvin Pryor will miss his third straight game with a high ankle sprain. Backup Dion Bailey, who started in Pryor's place last Sunday at strong safety, is also out with an ankle injury.

Barnes is a backup on the defensive line, and has been inactive two of the past three games.
